The German regulation for accessibility in the public sector.
BITV 2.0 is the German regulation that makes accessibility binding for public bodies. It builds on the European standard EN 301 549 and the WCAG and translates them into applicable law. Beyond the pure technical side it requires tangible building blocks such as an accessibility statement and a feedback mechanism through which users can report barriers. In the public sector it is therefore not optional but mandatory, and enforceable if it comes to that.
More in the documentationFor projects for authorities and public bodies we align with BITV 2.0 from the very start, not just shortly before launch. For us that also includes a proper accessibility statement and a working reporting channel, not only clean code. That keeps you on the legally safe side and spares you expensive retrofitting later.
Good to know
Many underestimate that BITV covers not just websites but also apps and electronic administrative processes. An accessible website with an inaccessible PDF application form behind it therefore does not yet satisfy the regulation.
