Prototyping and UI design, including in accessible contexts.
Adobe XD is a tool for UI design and prototyping from the Adobe family that ties in seamlessly with Photoshop and Illustrator. It is well suited to making an idea tangible quickly and getting an early feel for an interface, including simple transitions and micro-interactions. Its strength lies where existing Adobe assets and an established Adobe workflow set the tone. Adobe has, however, discontinued selling XD as a standalone product, which is why we only touch it in ongoing legacy projects.
More in the documentationWe reach for Adobe XD when a project is already set up in it and you want to keep an existing source file alive rather than throw it away. We then continue with your existing artboards and migrate them carefully, instead of redrawing everything. For new work we rely on Figma instead, because collaboration and the handoff into code run more smoothly there.
Good to know
Since Adobe XD is no longer actively developed or sold, with legacy files we usually plan a clean move to Figma right away. That spares you the stress later on, should the tool one day become unavailable altogether.
